To celebrate the roll-out of the new brand, Thumbtack hosted 300 pros from across the U.S. in San Francisco for a day of training, networking and celebration. Held at the Midway, the Self Made event included workshops, networking, and employee feedback sessions.

My role was to concept and brand the event, working with the team to create event branding, wayfinding, and unique art installations that elevated the space. Additionally, I helped art direct films unveiled at the event that showcased the stories of the Self Made.

The entire space at The Midway was designed to feel like a modern art gallery. Hundreds of photos of our pros lined the walls, painting a beautiful picture of the diversity of pros on the Thumbtack platform. Thumbtack’s new branding was prominently featured as well, letting the pros experience the brand first-hand before anyone else.

We designed massive lightboxes to show Thumbtack pros literally larger than life.

The lightboxes were designed to be a focal point for the event, inviting guests down a large corridor leading to more event spaces.

You can’t host a great event without swag. We hooked up pros in attendance with a tote bag, event guide, notebooks, and lots of other goodies.

We even designed a magazine showcasing the pros featured at the event.

A simple, branded wayfinding system was developed to help guests navigate the event. The iconography was pulled from the same set of UI icons used in our product

Other pieces at the event included a manifesto installation made entirely out of wooden boxes that served as a greeting to guests, as well as a wall of Thumbtack meta icons from the product furnished in solid walnut. Additionally, signs were designed that encouraged the correct flow of attendees throughout the day.

Manifesto film directed by Will Miller served as the intro at the event.

The logo mark was applied to different films and content, as well as a bold title treatment utilizing the heavy weight of Mark for Thumbtack.
